Scooting & Eating

I have been MIA for almost 20 days! I am an avid reader of my favs while nursing my son. I officially have a little mover on my hands! Little man has figured out how to scoot efficiently and man he keeps me busy. I can't turn my back on him because he is already into something new. With that being said I know that this is only the beginning because once he crawls he is going to be everywhere!

On Friday he turned 6 months and we started him on solids. I looked at every picture I have taken of him on iPhoto and teared up. I cannot believe a half a year has gone by already. Usually I cannot wait for Christmas but this year I'm in no rush. Goodness he will be 9 months then! Moving right along before I cry....

His first food was rice cereal and he liked it a lot. I'm not sure if he liked the cereal or just liked that he finally got to"eat" with us. I feel like we have been torturing him while we eat, either my husband or myself hold him while we eat and he reaches his tiny hand out when the fork goes near our mouth and he rest his hand on our chin. Now this sounds all sweet but in reality it happens so fast that at time he knocks food off the fork and is scrambling to see if he can get anything in his mouth. He has not been successful thankfully :)

In the past I have referred to my son as little man or baby boy, from here on out he will now be referred to as M. My free time is spent catching on housework and at the end of the day I have been so tired that sitting down to gather my thoughts to blog has been unrealistic. However, this is one of my favorite things to do just for me so I am going to start making time. Well break is over, M is up from his nap.

Our Favorites: 0-6 Month

Little man is two weeks away from turing 6 months, I don't even want to talk or think about that right now. I can feel tears welling up, how did this happen so fast?! Anyways on to the point of this post. The newborn phase flies by and your baby grows so fast! I took some {amazing} advice from my cousin and invested in longer lasting items and {tried} not to go overboard on infant things, I am so glad I listened!! Trust me it is pretty tempting to want to buy Babies R' Us and you think you need every accessory, baby gear and toy there is. Truth is you end up using very little in the beginning because when you find something that your baby loves it's like winning the lotto and you are set for a while.

Ergobaby Carrier: Baby wearing not only keeps your hands free but is a great way to bond with your baby. For the first few weeks I used the Moby Wrap but my little guy stopped like it. We switched over to the Ergo and haven't looked back since. He loves being in there. I am still "holding" him and able to get to so much done at the same time. He even catches a quick nap while in it :) The only thing I have yet to figure out is how to nurse effectively while using this, several failed attempts so I gave up. I know it can be done though.

Flip Diapers: Love, love, love! You can read about cloth diapering here and here.

Infant-to-Toddler Rocker: My son hated the swing after 2 weeks. He screamed every time he went in so I decided to open and assemble this gem. Initially he was pretty unsure of it but over the past 3 months he has grown to love it. It has the option to vibrate and also has a stand so he won't rock. I usually put him in this while I eat breakfast in the morning and give him a toy and he is happy as can be. I am pretty excited that it can be used as he grows too!!

Skip Hop Diaper Bag:  Going into motherhood I thought for sure I was going to want a fancy shmancy diaper bag, then I realized what a diaper bag goes through. This bag has literally been peed and pooped on, feel in the middle of the parking lot, got many things spilled on it and goes on the floor often. It is fashionable, durable, a pretty good size and straps onto my stroller quick and easy.

Snap and Go Stroller: I got this as a hand-me-down and I was a little skeptical at first, I was convinced I needed the whole travel system. Nope! This stroller is lightweight and compact. The only downfall is that the carseat doesn't literally snap in, you have to strap it in. We are almost done using this stroller and I have a Chicco Liteway to use next. I also have a BOB Revolution but it's way too big and bulky to use on a daily basis. I must say though if you like to go on walk/jogs the BOB is amazing!

Infant Optics Video Monitor: After reading and researching many video monitors I decided on this one. A video monitor is not necessary but it certainly gives me peace of mind being able to see my son while he is sleeping. It was very affordable and had great reviews. We are very pleased with this monitor! The picture is clear, it has an auto night vision feature, multiple cameras can be used with one monitor and its on a private channel. The own downfall is that the camera is stationary and it interferes with out wifi. However I think a lot of video monitors do that.

Boppy Noggin Nest: At our sons two month dr app we were told that he had a flat spot. I freaked out and wanted to take care of it. I know that flat spots are caused from babies being on their back so much and he favored looking to one side. I ordered this noggin nest and use this in his car seat. I felt good about leaving him in the carseat if he took a nap while we were driving becuase it doesn't put pressure on any one place. 4 months later his flat spot is barely noticeable. Granted he can roll over, is a tummy sleeper now and hold his head up so he doesn't really spend much time on that spot anymore.

Aden and Anais Swaddle Blankets: These were only used to swaddle for maybe the first month. Now they are our go to blanket. They are light and breathable and little man loves them. In the car when he gets fussy we toss him one of these and he snuggles up with it and 80% of the time will fall asleep minutes after.

Infantino Activity Mat: The first thing that made me buy this was the colors and the safari animals on it. This mat has kept my son entertained for months, now that he can roll he loves munching on all the hanging toys and kicks the mobile all the time.

Sophie the Giraffe: Yes she is one expensive squeaky toy. WORTH EVERY PENNY! She is little mans favorite teether. We joke that she is his girlfriend because you will pretty much always see him with her in hand. If we loose her, better believe we are running out to the nearest retailer to replace her!

What Being A Mom Looks Like

| On

A Mother looks different depending on who's lens you are looking through...

{through the lens of your child}
Your child is going to view you as superwoman. You are the first person they see when they wake up, the one who celebrate their milestones and snaps gazillions of pictures to share with everyone else, the one who stays up with them when they are sick, the one who's arms they run to when they are sad, the one who makes art projects with them. You are your child's whole world. They don't see the behind the scenes effort and sacrifices the we as mothers, the special planning and how we make things happen, and in my opinion, they never should. It's kinda the Bruce Wayne aspect of being Batman, the mystery makes him being a superhero that much more awesome.

{through the lens of your husband}
My husband and I just celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary. This years card made me cry [who am I kidding every card he writes me makes me cry] tears of joy. These were not the same tears of joy I got last year when he wrote about how happy he was that we were pregnant, or the the ones I get when   he writes how much he loves me and why. Nope these were special. I never sought his opinion on how I was doing as a mother. He has seen the ups and downs in this short time, the midnight feedings, my frustrations and breakdowns. It was amazing reading his gratitude for what I do as a mother and how he didn't know it was possible to love me more now that I had our child. I will cherish these words forever and on a down day I can read these and know that in his eyes I'm going great.

{through the lens of your family & friends}
While some may see your daily routine, most just get a snapshot of your day. They see you juggling three different tasks and offer to help but often times you reject their help because you have a system. [I am a one trip kind of a girl, I hate going back to the car several times to get things. Therefore I carry the diaper bag, infant carseat, and a grocery bag or two on one single trip.] They may not see the behind the scenes either, just what you tell them or what they see when they are with you.

{your own eyes}
Perhaps the most critical set of eyes. There is no manual how to be a Mom. You learn from your own experience and through trial and error. Being a Mother is like a huge experiment. You keep trying something until you find what works. You run on sleep fumes some days and on the days you are well rested you feel sleepy from getting to much sleep, go figure! You walk around with spit up on your shirt that you may or may not know about and if you do know about it, it most likely just happened and there is not much you can do about it if your out. You spend hours on end researching the best way to do something, or the "best" product that your child needs. You sweat the small stuff in the beginning because everything is new. That person you were before having a child is gone, and you are ok with that. Why? Caring for that tiny person is more important. I make time for doing things that I love and that means that those things happen later. I never want my son to feel like his mommy needs to make time for him.

That person that I see staring back at me in the mirror is now a Mom. That new joy I see, that deep love that I feel for my son that would make me do anything in my power for him, that new protective feeling that I carry and this overwhelming mothering instinct is now in that reflection. Even if I don't look like a million bucks all the time, I feel like I just won a million bucks because I am my little mans mom!

What does being a Mom look like to you?
